I couldn't resist sharing the final painting of this group. I saved painting him until last because I was so excited about it. See below for the gritty, messy, close-up.
Cormorant, Octopus, Tiger, & Fox
I'm painting a series of animals as elements for a gallery show next month. It's the first time in years that I'm doing something this removed from children's illustration. It's been really liberating. I love painting with gouache on wood, even if it does destroy my little brushes. After I finish the Fire/Tiger piece I might sketch up a few more ideas to keep this project rolling.
Moonchild
This is my first painting of 2013. I have no real resolutions this year. I'm living my life (see this amazing post from Jo Knowles) and following my new mantra: Go weird or go home. (see my PBJ post).
I made this little painting on wood for my talented young niece. She is very creative, introspective, and makes amazing things (stories, art, inventions). And she loves cats.
