Sketch to Finish (and then some!)

I recently finished up a few illustrations for a magazine, due out later this year. I thought I'd share a snippet, and it's iterations from sketch to finish. From my submitted sketch, I needed to give the girl shown 'hipper' clothes (middle image) - it wasfun to research what the cool kids might be wearing!

I made little tweaks in facial expressions too, arriving at my first painted final. There was a request to make the scene more autumnal and I used Photoshop rather than surrender to a total repaint. I actually liked the change, a gradient from orange to a subdued green better than the original - can't wait to see it all in print!

Autumn Days

Babies totally GET living in the moment, don't they? I, on the other hand, need a reminder - not for the moments with him. But the moments in between. I'm taking a media break. If any of you have done The Artists' Way, you know what I mean. So I'm putting a few blog posts together this morning to auto-post in my absence.

Check out the gorgeous quilted blanket made by our friend Jen, aka Recovergirl. She blogged about it over here. It's 100% reclaimed/reused fabrics. Including the binding. She's amazing. It will be loved for a long time to come I think. Oh, and go here to enjoy more pictures of our lovely day in the park, etc.
