More B's, less busy

I can't believe I drew a bunch of B objects the other day and didn't do birds? So here are some birds from yesterday's coffee shop time...

I'm back to being less conventionally busy. My desk has been properly windexed. Now I'm back the perpetual question of late: What next? It's really hard to answer because I have a long list of project ideas to choose from.

I have a sketch I like for this week's Illustration Friday topic (communication) but I'm feeling like I should get back to the Underwater Boy and start painting. My biggest mistake that I make repeatedly as an artist is trying to paint on too small a scale. Sketching small actually works well for me. I'll do a really tiny thumbnail and then scan and blow it up. This seems to keep my compositions simple and tight, less fussy. So halfway through final sketches on watercolor paper for my paintings I realized I was working too small, again!. Now I have to go back and re-transfer everything on properly scaled watercolor paper. At least I feel confident that I don't have to sketch ALL 12 panels before I start painting. I know I should be disciplined and do it that way but I've been itching to paint...
