For a very long time I made the choice to say no to client work. I was home, raising my small children. The little time I had went into working on my own projects. Sometimes it was easy saying no, sometimes it was extremely hard.
This past fall my youngest started part-time preschool, and my oldest started full-time Kindergarten. I started to slowly say yes to projects again. A little book design here, some small illustration jobs there. I still put most of my time into writing and working on board book and picture book dummies. This month I finally took on a small book job. And despite the onslaught of storms, snow days, and winter sickness swirling around, it is working out so well. I missed saying yes. I plan on doing it a LOT more often. That, and painting more tigers.
